The expansive ranches and gorgeous hillsides mandates to roll the windows down and enjoy the wind in your hair! The expansive limestone hills are the most unique and fascinating part of the drive not only are the views breathtaking but there’s a cloud of mysterious folklore surrounding Devil’s Backbone. On the journey you’ll pass through the small yet beautiful town of Blanco, which oozes rustic charm.Ībout 3 miles past Blanco, you’ll make a left turn onto Farm Road 32. However, the drive itself is simply gorgeous – stunning plateaus and lush vegetation can be found the entire way. If you’re willing to go further out on your drive then exploring Devil’s Backbone is a must! Grab some snacks & put on your favorite playlist as this drive is about 1.5hours. A row of cars upon arrival is where you can park! In order to get to this beautiful view, just enter 5300 N Capital of Texas Highway into your GPS or maps app. The trail is dog friendly, but they must be leashed and you should ensure they have plenty of water for the hike. If you’re into watching sunsets, however, the east side is better. The west side tends to be the more popular side as it provides a great view of the Austin skyline and the famous Pennybacker Bridge. There are 2 sides that you can hike up for the 360 overlook: east and west. However, if you’re fine with ‘going the distance’ – the view payoff is quite excellent. This hike is rated as moderate, so if you’ve never hiked before, this location may be more of a challenge than the other places on this list. The 360 Overlook is a popular 1.8-mile trail that features beautiful views. If you need something that’s close but still delivers a scenic delight - Bee Caves Road is a lovely 6.7-mile stretch of road that provides spectacular views! The rolling hills match the rolling and winding drive of Bee Caves Road and provide a beautiful break from flat Texas views. Last but most important – always have some water with you on any outdoor outing! If you’re sensitive to the sun, definitely put on some sunscreen as most of the summit platform is exposed to direct sunlight. The view’s way worth though – we promise. We suggest simply taking it slow & safe to reduce chances of being out of breath when you reach the top. There are around 100 stone steps to reach the peak – but it’s important to note the climb, while a short distance, is pretty steep. Don’t forget to bring along your camera for this drive to capture the incredible views of the entire city! 775 feet above sea level provides a view – and a picnic place - like no other! You can go to the middle where there is a yield sign and best to yield because there is a slight crest and it is tricky to see oncoming traffic well.īut is was a nice adventure and didn't have to drive through Blanco coming back from Wimberley.It’s pretty easy to say that 2020 has brought forth a lot more stress for everyone. 281 there is a stop sign and flashing red light, not a complete signal light so you have to yield to the very busy traffic on 281. I also noticed several roads going off of this highway towards Canyon Lake and other locals. There is an area to pull off that has picnic tables and a beautiful view of the land. There are some lovely views but if you are driving you definitely want to keep you eyes on the road as large trucks also use this cut through and the road is narrow with very little shoulder. This stretch is approximately 30 miles and a two lane road with many windy twists. 32 and decided to take it to cut across to Hwy. 12 towards San Marcos and then several miles out I saw the sign for Hwy. While visiting in Wimberley I went from the square on Hwy. Being a native Texan I have never driven on this stretch of road but have heard it mentioned many times.
